Saturday, seven members of the Superior Martial Arts Karate Team participated in the Michigan State Championships at Parchment High School near Kalamazoo, earning 17 medals and qualifying all members to the regional championships in events including kata (forms), kobudo (weapons), and kumite (sparring). Team members also qualified to participate in the “Junior Olympic Games” in Detroit.

Eleven members of the Superior Martial Arts Karate Team assume the stance of champions after earning 32 medals in competition recently. Team members include Ben Troutman, Brandon Ross, Bailey Ordiway, Emily Johnson, Steve Dahl, Zach Hamilton, Danny Hockin, Cohl Coppock, Steve Hixon, Becky Moran and Gary Britton.The team participated in the Feb. 9 Lake Superior State University martial arts tournament. Becky Moran was named grand champion. Instructors/coaches for the team are Sensei Lynette Bunno, Michael Bunno and Mitchell Bunno.
